PrideFest is an annual event held in Perth, to celebrate and support the LGBTQ+ community. While other states and countries celebrate Pride at different times of year, in WA it takes place over the whole month of November. PrideFest features a range of events including a parade, street fair and live performances, all coordinated by Pride WA.
It serves as an important platform for promoting visibility, equality and acceptance of the LGBTQ+ community throughout Western Australia.
The theme for this year’s PrideFest is Together, Go West. It aims to convey a message of hope and optimism, encouraging people to pursue a life in WA where they can be authentically themselves. This is our home, and we all want to feel safe and proud – and have some fun!
PrideFest in Perth dates back to the 1980s. The first Pride march in Perth was held in 1989, organized by the Perth Gay Liberation movement. This march was a protest against the discrimination and marginalization faced by LGBTQ+ individuals in Australia at the time.
Over the years, celebrating Pride in November has become a tradition in WA.
It is now a much-loved annual celebration of LGBTQ+ culture and diversity, and welcomes all who support LGBTQ+ people to be themselves.
Happy Pride!
