Winter is coming…
I’ve mentioned crochet in a previous blog but how about knitting?
Time to get those needles out and prepare some cozy knitted goodies.

Similarly to crochet, knitting can be used to create a vast variety of useful items such as blankets, scarves, hats, dog or cat sweaters and clothing!

Knitting offers a multitude of benefits, making it a wonderful hobby to learn for many people:

  1. Creativity: Knitting allows you to express your creativity through the choice of colors, yarn types, and patterns. You can create unique pieces that reflect your personal style and preferences.
  2. Stress relief: The repetitive motions of knitting can be soothing and meditative, helping to reduce stress and anxiety. Many people find it a calming activity that promotes mindfulness and relaxation.
  3. Mindfulness: Knitting requires concentration and focus, which can help you stay present in the moment and practice mindfulness. It’s a great way to take a break from the distractions of daily life and center your thoughts.
  4. Sense of accomplishment: Completing a knitting project, whether it’s a simple dishcloth or a complex sweater, can give you a great sense of achievement. Seeing your creation come to life through your own hands is incredibly rewarding.
  5. Community: Knitting often brings people together, whether it’s through knitting circles, online forums, or classes. You can connect with fellow knitters, share tips and techniques, and find inspiration from others’ projects.
  6. Brain health: Learning new knitting stitches and techniques can help keep your brain sharp and improve cognitive function. It’s a great way to challenge yourself and keep your mind active.
  7. Portability: Knitting is a portable hobby that you can take with you wherever you go. Whether you’re traveling, waiting for an appointment, or simply relaxing at home, you can easily bring your knitting project along and work on it whenever you have some free time.

Did you know that we have a Knitting Circle at each of our libraries? These are for all types of crafters who would like to bring their craft along to meet and chat with a group of lovely people. Find out which location and date works for you here

We also have a plethora of books about knitting whether you are a seasoned or beginner knitter in all of our libraries! Check some of them out below!
