Summary

Named after a famous fictional character, librarian Bridget Jones was raised on a remote cattle station, with only her mother’s romance novels for company. Believing that anyone who doesn’t like reading just hasn’t met the right book yet, Bridget is a hopeless romantic. Caught between hope and scepticism, wondering if her romantic “curse” will once again thwart her chance at love. When handsome Italian barista Fabio progresses from flirting with love hearts on her coffee foam, to joining the book club she runs at her library, it’s the attention of her cranky neighbour Sully that seems to be the major obstacle in her life. She soon discovers that not all romances start with a “meet-cute”, but they might just end in happily ever after…

“I just knew I had to read this novel when I found out that the protagonist was a Librarian at the Fremantle Library. Like Bee, aka Bridget, I am also a Librarian and a lover of books and reading. And while romance novels are often maligned, there is something uplifting about happy endings, no matter how predictable!

This romcom not only had all the ‘feels’, but with chapters like Unadulterated, No-strings-attached, Neighbourly Bonking, (Not) Faking It and Giddy-Up, you know it’s going to be a fun read. And Bridget, a kickboxing heroine, proved that books really do have the power to change lives. While it was predictable that Bridget would find her happily-ever-after with the handsome, swoon-worthy doctor (who conveniently moves in next door), that’s exactly the ending I was hoping for!”

As a public library employee, I just loved reading about the “fictionalised” life of a public library employee. It also helped that it was in a library that I know (rather than a made-up library). I loved reading about the life of Bridget, her friends and how she handles her love life with books. Originally rooting for Fabio, Sully did grow on me over time.

I am not normally a romance reader, but I couldn’t put this book down.

I give it a 4 out of 5 stars
