Hello there fellow anime aficionados! The time has come for our quarterly anime update. To let you know what wonderful titles we have acquired, and added to the library’s extensive anime collection, for your viewing pleasure.

Let’s start with the four new titles that were hand picked for our most recent Anime Arvo screening this April. If I can dare to recommend Shadows House and Ranking of Kings in particular, as two of my favourite new series of recent times. They really stood out as being quite unique and interesting. Both have a second part/season and are slated for further seasons. I can’t wait!

The Day I Became a God

“You have 30 days to live. What do you do next? Yata had a future until Hina declares the world will end in 30 days. Though skeptical, he wonders of her divinity upon seeing her abilities at work. Is it true? Is it really the end? More importantly, why did she pick him to spend her final moments with?”

Shadows House – Season 1

“High atop a cliff sits the mansion known as Shadows House, home to a faceless clan that pretends to live like nobles. They express their emotions through living dolls that also endlessly clean the home of soot. One such servant, Emilico, aids her master Kate as they learn more about themselves and the mysteries of the house.”

Ranking of Kings – Season 1, part 1

“Deaf, non-speaking, and unable to wield a sword, Prince Bojji doesn’t seem like a typical heir to the throne, and his kingdom agrees. As his brother plots to take over, Bojji allies with an outcast creature named Kage — who believes in him like no one has before.”

Otherside Picnic

“Moments from death, Sorawo is saved by the mysterious Toriko in the Otherside. Discovering a beautiful but monster-filled dimension, they set out to explore this nightmare realm together. What they encounter could bring enlightenment, or drive them mad!”

Following up and rounding off this update, here are our final few new titles. One is a beautiful but bitter-sweet feature film. Another is part of the never-ending NEU (Naruto Extended Universe). The last two comprise the complete first season of a new series which continues on from a long running classic from the early 2000s: InuYasha (FYI, the original manga began in the 90s and was penned by one of Japan’s best-known female manga artists, Rumiko Takahashi).
Oh! And if I can get in a cheeky plug, don’t forget Anime×Club is on every third Thursday of the month. Our next being Thu 18 May (bookings open closer to the date – click here to check it out).
